On September 1, we witnessed a momentous occasion for La Joya ISD as parent volunteer Nelida Tapia was announced as the recipient of the prestigious 2023 Heroes for Children Award for State Board of Education (SBOE) District 2, represented by Mr. LJ Francis. This remarkable achievement was made possible by the nomination of J.D. Salinas Middle School social worker Ms. Norma Garcia, LBSW underscoring the invaluable contributions Ms. Tapia has made to the JD Salinas Middle School community, staff, and, most importantly, the students of La Joya ISD and Texas.
Out of a vast pool of deserving candidates, Ms. Tapia joins an exclusive circle of only 15 distinguished awardees statewide, all recognized for their outstanding dedication and support. The recognition ceremony took place during the SBOE general meeting on September 1, 2023, at the William B. Travis Building, Suite 1-104, situated at 1701 North Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas.
This accolade not only celebrates Ms. Tapia's remarkable achievements but also highlights the profound impact individuals like Ms. Tapia have on shaping the future of education in Texas. La Joya ISD proudly congratulates Ms. Nelida Tapia for this well-deserved honor, which not only illuminates her journey but also shines a beacon on the district's commitment to excellence as we remain student-focused, data-driven, and results-oriented.
